A 16-year-old girl is in custody, suspected in the fatal stabbing early Saturday of her 16-year-old boyfriend inside their Roseville home, police said.

Tremain Poe was found dead at approximately 4 a.m. on the living room floor of the house in the 25000 block of Ford Street, in the 10 Mile Road-Gratiot Avenue area, Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin said.

The couple, who are parents of a 3-week-old son, were involved in an argument that turned violent, police said.

“During this exchange the 16-year-old girlfriend grabbed a kitchen-style knife and stabbed the victim one time in the stomach causing his demise,” Berlin said.

Police did not reveal the female teen’s name, citing her age and possible formal charges. The girlfriend was arrested at the home without resistance, police said.

The incident left neighbors stunned, said Norma Schaschko, who resides next door.

“Unfortunately things like that happen,” Schaschko told The Macomb Daily late Saturday afternoon. “They seemed like very good people, nice people.

“I was shocked just like everybody else.”

The teenager in custody has made statements to officers, but Berlin declined to reveal details of her remarks until detectives complete their investigation and present their findings on Monday to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

“We’re going to ask for her to be charged as an adult,” Berlin said.

A review hearing for the girlfriend is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Macomb County Juvenile Court.

The teenage parents reside at the home of the suspect’s mother. The woman was sleeping at the time of the incident, police said.

In addition to the infant and that child’s maternal grandmother, two other people were at the house as emergency crews arrived. It was not immediately known if they were inside the home at the time of the argument and stabbing.

The caller to police reported that a person was not breathing, but did not mention a stabbing, Berlin said. Police did not immediately divulge who phoned 911.

“We didn’t get a call immediately after the event, but in close proximity,” he said.

The knife that police believe was used in the stabbing was recovered in a bedroom. The deputy chief said it did not appear that someone tried to hide the knife, but simply may have flung it there.

Investigators did not immediately know if Poe was in the bedroom at the moment he was stabbed.

Roseville police had no prior record of responding to the house for any domestic problems, police said.

Schaschko, the neighbor, said she often saw elementary school-aged children playing outside next door, and two days ago saw the suspect’s mother on the front porch with the infant.

“The young man was out cutting the grass,” she added.
